Figen's teaching practice (04.10.2012)

Here is what I recorded last week in my A level class. Please share one thing you like and one thing you don't like about my class. Thank you Figen https://vimeo.com/50976365

  1. Figen walks around the classroom and checks her students' studies. This is very good in order to control what they do and to what extent they understand. Her instructions are very clear for A level although they are in English! :) She sometimes explains them by writing on the board (e.g. the question in warm-up part). This is helpful for the students who miss the instructions. She asks her students to work in pairs, and this increases students' participation. I liked the lesson in general. Thanks for sharing,

  2. I like that Figen connects the topic of the lesson (family business) to the student's personal experience (shopping in Eskisehir, Turkish chain stores). Also, she uses simple clear language and rarely resorts to Turkish. Sometimes when Figen elicits answers, the students talk over one another and it is hard to hear the answers. However, that's a small thing. I enjoyed the lesson and was glad to observe it.

  3. The lesson was appropriate for A level students; I mean the clear instructions, its pace and the way she approaches to the students. Eliciting students' answers and writing them on the board are the good ways of showing that she cares about their contribution and participation. Besides, relating the lesson to the places they're familiar with is a good idea as it enhances the participation in the lesson. Sometimes, all the students talk at the same time but she prevents it saying one by one. I enjoyed it, thanks for sharing:)
