Reflection (for Birsen, Gökhan, Doğukan, Hilal and Numan)

Of the various skills covered in this observation, which do you feel you would most like to consider further in relation to your own teaching?

  1. There is not only thing which has the potential to influence any of the teaching strategy that I can employ in my future courses. The first thing that caught my attention was the fact that, as an instructor/teacher, one needs to be able to reach out to all of the students in the class, not only one or two in specific. To do that, one needs to extend his/her control over the students from the first moments of the module and, at the same time, maintain that control throughout the course time. Secondly, to be able to raise ANY kind of interest in the course (whether the students are going for it or not) is a great skill to become handy at any kind of teaching atmosphere that one needs to master throughout his/her teaching career... There are other issues to be taken into consideration, ranging from correction to pronunciation and from use of materials to the student-time within the class... Yet, the first two points stand out more than the rest for me at this point of my situation...

  2. This has totally been an inspiring experience for me. The ability of instructor to create participation in the class is the most essential quality of a good teacher. Turning the atmosphere into a cheerful and lively ambience is another factor to be analysed. Besides, time for each and every task should be determined in advance and be strictly applied for the most effective teaching. And the last but not the least, a teacher should not lose the little light of teaching motivation even through the merciless years and even with the reluctant students. To sum up, this observation has added so much to my teaching credo that a blog entry cannot explain the development!

  3. The first thing I want to point out is the importance of the atmosphere in the classroom. A good teacher should create a warm atmosphere to ensure students' participation. Another crucial factor is setting a time limit for every activity so that students feel obliged to perform the given task within a reasonable time. It is also essential to monitor the students while they're performing the task- however, there should be no intervention unless the students ask for help or there's something wrong. Finally, a qualified teacher should address to every one of the students - even the reluctant ones- in the classroom. Although there are also other factors that sould be borne in mind, above-mentioned ones are the ones I would most like to apply in my future classes.
